Supreme Court to hear argument about health care reform

The Supreme Court announced Monday it would hear challenges to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act next March. According to media reports, the court will hold more than five hours of oral argument to decide the constitutionality of the health care law’s requirement for individuals to buy insurance. The individual mandate begins in 2014. Twenty-six states, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) and the Justice Department petitioned the court to review the Affordable Care Act. According to the Washington Post, only the federal appeals court in Florida, one of the four federal appeals courts have that have considered the Affordable Care Act, has struck down a part of the health care reform saying it exceeded its power under the constitution. Politico reports a ruling on the health care reform law will likely be postponed until late June.
