President announces proposal to allow more people to keep current insurance plans
President Obama announced at a press conference at noon today that he will make administrative modifications that will allow more Americans to keep their current health plans. This announcement is intended to help millions of customers who have received cancellation notices over the past several months by allowing insurers to maintain plans that were set to sunset this year. The proposal will require, however, that insurance companies inform customers how their current plan fails to comply with the list of "Essential Health Benefits" delineated in regulations written in accordance with the Affordable Care Act. He also called on Congress to work with him to find solutions to "make the law better," thereby avoiding some of the cancellations that his proposal cannot reach.
